The Freelance Jungle Directory has been shutdown, the page removed, and we’re slowly going through the process of removing mentions of it from all things Freelance Jungle.
It served a purpose in the early days. But with out-of-date listings, increased plugin slowness, and the financial and labour costs, it was no longer viable. It has been removed from the Freelance Jungle website.
If you were listed on the Freelance Jungle Directory, what this means for you
- We’ve kept the list of people registered for referral purposes.
- A weekend spent checking the list shows it needs an update.
- Chasing the sheer volume of records (1000+) is inefficient.
- We didn’t want to opt you in to somewhere else without your permission.
- Here’s a list of channels you can (re)join instead.
Where you can connect up
Things have changed since the Freelance Jungle in 2012. We are diversifying the platforms to cater to that change and be more resilient against Meta/Facebook changes.
This is your community your way – pick any or all that suit.
Patreon
Tired of missing events and announcements because you can’t see them? Patreon is the place for you.
- It offers FREE (email required) and PAID supporter options.
- There are (mostly) weekly reminders via Freelance Jungle Patreon to paid supporters
- There are reminders (roughly) once a month to free supporters.
- Paid Patreon supporters also get access to classes, courses, content
- FREE and PAID supporters qualify for discounts on my coaching and strategy work via the Patreon shop.
- Patreon has free and paid chat rooms, including a free promotional chat
Discord
Discord offers a forum-based community:
- There are FREE sections and other sections exclusively for PAID Patreon supporters
- Unlike Facebook and LinkedIn, it is a platform free from AI data harvesting and committed to privacy
- You discuss topics in channels so you can tune in for certain types of content
- It’s a fledgling community (for the early adopters in the house)
- It has dedicated channels for topics
You can join via this link https://discord.gg/BAUTRC5n93
Apparently, LinkedIn groups might finally be hip in 2025 (?)
- You can join the private Freelance Jungle group on LinkedIn
- You can also follow Freelance Jungle founder Rebekah Lambert profile if you want to stay connected but are sick of groups
Substack
Rebekah is diving into Substack over the summer break to use the community features (chat, audio etc) more effectively.
Until then, you can subscribe to receive:
- Monthly newsletter content (with essay plus event reminders and links)
- Deeper thinking essays called plumbing the depths (released as they happen)
- Short shot-in-the-arm freelance content with jungle leaf litter (think Seth Godin)
- There is no Freelance Jungle specific Instagram. However, you can follow the combined business + creative + Freelance Jungle profile for Rebelah there. Dive in! https://www.instagram.com/unashamedlycreative/
You can still talk to the Freelance Jungle community via Freelance Jungle’s Facebook group for:
- Event invites
- Content sharing
- General conversation
Just please don’t yell at the Freelance Jungle team about what Meta does and doesn’t show you. It’s not something we can control without paying ad dollars, and the money raised by the Patreon is better spent elsewhere.
If you are looking to hire freelancers
We recognise that some freelancers used the directory to find people to collaborate with. And businesses liked using the directory to find freelance talent. We’re promoting a more hand-in-glove version of that in 2025.
- If you want to hire freelancers and work effectively with freelancers in your business, check out Rebekah’s freelance services for workplaces.
- If you are a freelancer looking to hire other freelancers, please head to the Patreon and make use of the FREE chat or subscribe for access to the Jungle Lounge group (formerly Jungle Jobs).
If you want to get more work in 2025
Rather than focussing on talent directories and job boards, the Freelance Jungle will continue our long tradition of helping you with client management, marketing, and business development. Stay tuned for the 2025 program.
Thank you!
The Freelance Jungle team
