How would you describe your business?
Alasdair is a Canberra based psychologist with over 25 years’ experience working with children and young people.
Between 2008 and 2016, Alasdair was the Children & Young People Commissioner in the ACT, and, in 2017, went into private practice as a consultant psychologist. Alasdair provides expert advice regarding best-practice service delivery for children and young people, as well as undertaking consultation and engagement activities with groups of children and young people.
Alasdair’s areas of expertise include: independent statutory oversight and advocacy; child safe/child friendly service delivery; consulting with children and young people; and children and young people in the care and protection, youth justice, and mental health systems.
Alasdair is a founding Director of DelRoy Consulting, which assists community, private and government agencies to become safe and friendly environments for children and young people.
Alasdair is also the National Convenor of the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Young People (ARACY) Middle Years Network.
In 2014, Alasdair was an ACT Australian of the Year Finalist for his work promoting and protecting the rights of children and young people; in 2015, was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to examine Child Safe/Child Friendly practice in Iceland, Norway and Sweden; and in 2016 was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for services to children and young people.
Alasdair holds a Masters degree in counselling psychology, and is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia.
